National COVID-19 Vaccination Program has started administering third COVID-19 vaccine dose for all high-risk individuals who had their second dose of the vaccine more than eight months ago.
Former Qatar University president Dr Abdulla Al Kubaisi — who was the first one to receive the vaccine when the country launched the COVID-19 vaccination programme on December 23 last year — was the first to receive the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Madinat Khalifa Health Center yesterday.
This follows the Ministry’s approval of a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna to individuals suffering from certain immunodeficiency diseases and weakened immune systems.
Upon receiving the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, Dr. Al Kubaisi encouraged all eligible members of society to receive the third dose.
“I am grateful to the Ministry of Public Health for choosing me as the first citizen in the State of Qatar to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, on December 23, 2020, and I am happy to receive the third dose. It will protect me from the COVID-19 and reassure my ability to carry out daily activities and be healthy,” he said, while speaking to the media.
Individuals who are eligible for the third dose will be contacted directly by the PHCC or HMC.
Manager at the Madinat Khalifa Health Centre, Dr. Amal Saeed AlYafei, said they had received a list of eligible people from the PHCC. “These people will be contacted by our staff to get their consent for the third dose and fix an appointment.”
